To VAF Member/Artists:

Would you like to have your own website—or have more images on the VAF website?

Larry Larroquette answered “yes” to both.  I set up the site for him.  See the results:  Go to the Artists page www.vistaartfoundation.org/artists.htm; then scroll down to Larry’s name; then click on his image or on bio to view Larry’s website which is located at this URL: www.vistaartfoundation.org/larry_larroquette.htm

That is quite a long web address to put on a business card.  Larry wanted his Domain Name to be:  www.DigitalArtbyLarroquette.com   Click on it, and you will see that it goes to the same place on the World Wide Web.  That is called “URL Forwarding” (when one address takes you to the actual address).

Domain names cost about $9 per year.  I can help you with domain purchase, if needed.

Your website has to “reside” somewhere.  That somewhere is on a big computer at a web host.  My sites are on ATT and I pay $120/year.  VAF pays $120/year to Aplus.net for a huge amount of space.  The current VAF website is using 4% of the space allotted to us.  VAF can sublease some of that space to you for $30/year.

Here’s the deal:

As webmaster, I will add additional images of your artwork (and text) to your existing page on the VAF website for $20/hr.  (This is about a third of the going rate for web design.)  The amount of time involved will depend on the number of new pages I need to create, the number of images, and the “condition” of the images.  I need high quality digital images, which need only to be resized for display on the website.  Digital snapshots of artwork may have to be adjusted for color, brightness, contrast, etc., which takes time.

If you need someone to photograph your artwork, my husband, Bob Boyd, can do that.  Bob has already been photographing art for some of the members and other artists, and will take the photo, square and crop the image, adjust color, brightness, and contrast, and then burn the files to a CD for the artist.  The artist will get: 1) a high resolution file which can be given to a printer, 2) a file suitable for e-mail, and 3) upon request, a file specifically sized for show entry (these requirements vary by show).  If the artwork (preferably unglazed) is dropped off and picked up at our home, Bob charges $10 per image.

To view photos that Bob has taken of his own artwork, or to see examples of business cards he has designed for artists using their artwork as background for the card, visit our website at www.RPBoydDesign.com.  Once there, click on “Web Design by Pat Boyd” to learn more about what all is involved in getting a website.

To Sweeten the Deal:

If you act now, and we get your site up and running before the end of 2008, you will not have to pay any website rent for 2008.  You will need to pay $30 to VAF which will cover the entire year of 2009.  (And you also will have to pay me $20/hr for preparing your images for use on the web, for creating your web pages, etc.)
