VAF Art Gallery Rules and Regulations

Acceptable Entries:

All artists must be members of VAF.  VAF welcomes original artwork in every common media:

Two dimensional framed fine art and photographs, sculpture, ceramics, three-dimensional fine art, jewelry.

No nudes, violence, or "dark art".

More detailed definitions are available at the Gallery.

Receiving & Pick-Up Day:

Normally the first Friday afternoon and Saturday morning of the month, but subject to change.

Artwork must be submitted and/or picked up on the designated date by the artist, or a representative of the artist with written permission note from the artist.

Artwork may not be left at the gallery prior to receiving day.

Only sold artwork may be removed from the gallery prior to pick-up/receive day.

Framed work that is sold and removed must be replaced by the artist with another piece.

Hanging Requirements:

All frames must be clean, strong, and well assembled.

They must have strong picture wire for hanging, with the wire ends taped for safety.

For instructions for secure wiring (with photos to illustrate each step), click here.

Serrated hooks are not allowed.

Plexiglas, glass, and mats are required on other than oil/acrylic hangings to protect the work.

Entries hanging on the walls are limited to 10 pounds, but dimensions are flexible.

The gallery has display stands for sculpture pieces.

Number of entries per month is limited to four or fewer.

Very large entries may be limited or refused when space is limited.

The Gallery Director reserves the right to further restrict the number of pieces accepted when space is limited.

Fees:

Entry fees must be paid on receiving day.

$10.00 per entry.  $15.00 if diagonal (outside) dimension is greater than 34".

$20.00 for large jewelry case, $10.00 for half case, max 3 artists per case.

No fee for shrink-wrapped matted pieces.  No fee for cards.

Shrink-wrapped items, cards, and gift shop items must have an inventory/price list.

No fee for gift shop items, which must be priced under $100.00, with sales tax included in the price.

Only quality, hand made or hand painted, useable pieces will be accepted for display.

No sitting requirements for no-fee items.

Sitting Requirements:

Artists hanging their work must sit one shift (three hours) during the month for one entry submitted.

For 2 to 4 entries submitted, two half-day shifts are required.

The artists must choose their sit times when they submit their art.

Extenuating circumstances may require additional assignments.

It is the artist's responsibility to find a substitute if he/she cannot keep the appointed time.

Trading time slots with another artist is allowed, or a sitter may be obtained from list of paid sitters, which can be found in the Gallery.

If it is necessary for you to change your sitting time, look at the online Calendar to get an idea of times available.

Sales:

All art items displayed at the Gallery must be for sale.

Artists must include sales tax in the sales price listed for each item.

For all sales that result from exposure at the Gallery, VAF requests that artists donate a commission of 15% for hanging art, sculpture, all matted prints, cards, and for Gift Shop items $25 and under.  For Gift Shop Items priced more than $25.00, a commission of 30% is requested.

This is one of the ways the gallery defers the costs of operation.

For sales paid for by check, the check must be written to Vista Art Foundation.

The Treasurer of VAF is responsible for computing the sales tax and paying it to the Board of Equalization, for computing the commission amount (and credit card use fee, if applicable), and for writing a check to the Artist.

Credit Cards:

Credit cards will be accepted for sales over $25, and a fee of 5% of the total transaction will be kept by VAF to defray costs of credit card transactions.

Because there is a cost involved for credit card transactions, please do not pay your membership fees or hanging fees with a credit card unless you add 5%.

Liability Release:

All members who display their artwork must sign a liability release found on the Intake Form which states, "I hereby release the Vista Art Foundation, Inc. of any and all responsibility for loss and/or damage to the artwork that I submit for display or sale."

Unclaimed Artwork:

All work that is left or stored in the gallery storeroom for more than 30 days becomes the property of VAF and will be disposed of appropriately.
