The Young Artists Gallery is located in the back room at the Vista Village Art Gallery.
YAG
has had a number of Directors, each with wonderful visions.
"Why
do we want to encourage young artists?
WELL——art has been reduced or deleted from our schools.
Imagine a world without art. Its not just paintings and sculpture.
Artists design your cars, your homes, and its contents, your clothing,
your parks etc. etc. etc.
I
cant imagine a world without color and texture and ever changing design.
Art
is not just for fun. It teaches many things such as visualization,
observation, balance, hand-eye coordination, and the use of color to name
a few.
I
don't expect all of these students to become artists, but it is my hope
that they will become art appreciators.
If we
don't encourage and guide these young people who will?
We
now partner with the Boys and Girls Club and Casa de Amparo, showing their
art every month. Teachers say showing art at a professional gallery has
increased the students' self esteem.
Where
will we go from here? With the ideas of the artists and the support of the
community, there is no end to the possibilities.
--Carole Lee
"We don't expect all young people to grow up and become professional artists, but it is our dream that they will grow up to appreciate the power and importance of art and beauty in our community. Painting, weaving, sculpting, dancing, singing --all empower kids with the sacred experience of telling their own story and learning the craft of a particular artistic discipline. Everyone loves the monthly Art Receptions, and we have some great food! We invite you to join us."--Heather Williams, Current YAG Director
